This year, they’ve increased the number of spots available for the Japan Working Holiday visa! It’s gone from 200 to 400!
Under the agreement between Argentina and Japan on the Working Holiday Program signed in May 2017, the Japanese government allows Argentine citizens to stay in Japan for up to one year, primarily for vacation purposes, with the option to work occasionally to cover travel expenses.
REQUIREMENTS
- Be an Argentine citizen.
- Be residing in Argentina at the time of application.
- Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the time of applying for the visa.
- You may not be accompanied by dependents, unless they have their own visas.
- Hold a valid Argentine passport.
- Have a round-trip ticket to Argentina or sufficient funds to purchase one (a round-trip ticket to Japan is estimated to cost USD 2,000).
- Have sufficient funds to cover living expenses during the initial period of stay in Japan (estimated at USD 2,000).
- Intend to leave Japan at the end of your stay.
- Not have previously obtained a Working Holiday visa for this same country.
- Have no criminal record.
- Provide international health insurance valid for the duration of your stay in Japan.
Visa applications must be submitted by email and must meet the requirements.
This visa is free.
PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING THE VISA
1- DOCUMENTS TO SUBMIT
1) Valid Argentine passport with blank pages.
2) Valid National ID Card
3) Curriculum Vitae (Appendix 1)
4) Estimated travel itinerary for your stay in Japan (Appendix 2)
5) A letter explaining the reasons why you wish to participate in the Working Holiday program (Free format)
6) Completed visa application form
7) A recent passport-style photo (4.5 cm x 4.5 cm, full face, white background)
8) Proof of financial means demonstrating financial solvency and stability: bank statement for the last three months showing your account balance.
9) Affidavit committing to enroll in Japan’s National Health Insurance (Appendix 5), or a contract for international health insurance valid for the duration of your stay in Japan.
2- SUBMISSION OF DOCUMENTS AND INQUIRIES
Applicants must submit copies of all the documents listed above via email. The Consular Section will accept documents starting January 2 until the initial quota of 50 people is filled, which will be renewed quarterly until a total of 200 slots are reached for the year 2018.

3- CONSULAR INTERVIEW
The Consular Section of the Embassy of Japan in Argentina will review the submitted documents and verify compliance with all requirements, and may request that the applicant submit additional documentation during this period.
Once the review of the documents is complete, the Consular Section will contact applicants to schedule an appointment for the in-person submission of visa applications. Applicants must present the original documents for verification.
No fees will be charged for the issuance of this visa.
The Consular Section of the Embassy of Japan in Argentina reserves the right to deny applications in all cases and is under no obligation to provide reasons for denial.

Health Insurance
It is recommended that you purchase health insurance for your stay in Japan, as the employment conditions of this visa and the duration of employment may not be sufficient to qualify for coverage provided by employers or companies.

Temporary Departure from Japan
Working Holiday visas are single-entry visas. If a program participant must leave Japan for any reason and wishes to return within the approved period of stay in Japan, they must obtain a special re-entry permit from the Japan Immigration Bureau before leaving the country.
