Here is the information you need about the process to obtain your visa.
1. Schedule an appointment online
Schedule an appointment at the embassy for the "Working Holiday Program (WHP)" at:
2. Go to the embassy with the required documentation.
Bring the required documentation to begin the WHP application process.
You can download the form here, or you can fill it out at the embassy.
The copy of the passport is only of the first page and can be in black and white.
Photos must be recent and passport-sized (NOT 4x4).
You must bring:
- Application form
- Passport and a copy of the first page
- 3 (THREE) 35 x 45 mm photos with a white background
You will be given a letter confirming that you have started the application process for the Netherlands Working Holiday Visa.
A few days after your appointment, you will receive your V-NUMBER, the reference number for your application, via email.
3. Pay the visa application fee
Deadline: 3 weeks from receipt of the V-Number
Payment must be made by bank transfer to the Dutch Ministry of Immigration and Naturalization (IND).
The account details for the deposit will be included in the email you receive after your appointment with the V-Number.
The V-Number is used as the payment reference.
4. Prepare the documents to send
Maximum timeframe of approximately 3 weeks from payment.
Attention! You must send the documentation by email and by mail. The documents must be translated into Dutch, English, or French (send both the original and the translated copy).
What documentation must you send?
- Proof of funds.
- Annual insurance quote/contract.
- All the documents requested in the email they sent you. Each process is personalized, which is why you must pay close attention to their emails! They may ask you for a document different from what others were asked to provide.
Once you have all the required documents, as mentioned above, you must send everything by email and regular mail to:
Immigration and Naturalisation Service
P.O. Box 5
9560 AA TER APEL
The Netherlands
Once you’ve sent all the documentation, you’ll need to wait for them to send you a response regarding everything you’ve submitted
5. Wait for the decision:
Maximum processing time is 90 days from the date the documents are submitted. To check the status of your visa, you must call the IND at +31 88 043 0430. The wait time is approximately 15 to 20 minutes. You must communicate in English or Dutch.
6. Obtain the MVV Sticker
Maximum processing time: 90 days from approval
To obtain the visa sticker that allows you to enter the Netherlands, you must go to the embassy and leave your passport there. They send it to Washington, where they affix the sticker to your passport; this takes between 5 and 15 days. You must present your ticket for entry into the European Union (they call it an itinerary, and a return ticket is not required).
The days for pickup and drop-off are: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, no appointment necessary.
This concludes the entire process in Argentina. The following steps are what you must do once you have arrived in the Netherlands:
You can enter from anywhere in the European Union; you simply need to present the MVV sticker.
Upon entry, you may be asked to show proof of return funds and your health insurance policy for your stay.
PLEASE NOTE: When you obtain the MVV sticker, they will ask for your flight date so that your Residence Permit is ready one day after that date. Keep in mind that this is the date on which your Working Holiday year begins
7. Obtaining Your Residence Permit and BSN
Once you’re in the Netherlands, you’ll need to apply for your residence permit (this can take up to 15 business days). We recommend applying for your permit while your MVV sticker is still valid. If you go over the deadline, it’s not a problem, but without a valid sticker or Residence Permit, you won’t be able to easily prove that you’re in the country legally...
The residence permit has an expiration date, one year after it is issued. That marks the end of your Working Holiday.
Keep in mind that you need your BSN for everything, so get it as soon as possible. To obtain your citizen number (BSN), you’ll need your birth certificate; with this, you’ll be able to live and work without needing a work permit. The BSN is processed at the municipality corresponding to your address.
