Renew your American Airlines AAdvantage miles easily and for free

At this time, American Airlines is not allowing AwardWallet access to user accounts, so we are waiting for this feature to be reactivated so we can renew miles using this method. We will update this post if that happens.

We’re here to share a tip for those whose Advantage (American Airlines) miles are about to expire and need to be renewed.

As we know from the Advantage program, miles do not expire as long as there is activity in the account. This is great because if you have a card that earns miles, you don’t have to worry about expiration—every transaction renews the miles for another 18 months. But it can happen that you have miles accumulated from a trip and no further activity on the account—that’s when you start to worry when the miles are about to expire!!! 

Buuut luckily, there’s a great way to generate activity on your account without having to pay to buy miles or transfer miles to someone else. Here are the steps to renew them for free and in a very easy way.

The first thing you need to do is sign up for free on AwardWallet (AwardWallet is a platform where you can link all your frequent flyer accounts from different airlines and keep them all together in one simple place). Once you’ve signed up, you need to link your Advantage account to AwardWallet

Now I’ll walk you through the steps to follow once you’ve linked the account you want to renew your Advantage miles.

STEP 1: The first thing you need to do is leave a comment on a post on the AwardWallet blog. Find a post where you can leave a comment relevant to the post’s content, since your comment will be reviewed by moderators to ensure it’s genuine and appropriate.

STEP 2: When you comment, a prompt will appear asking which account you want the 5 miles awarded for the comment to be credited to

STEP 3: All that’s left is to wait for our comment to be approved and for the 5 miles to be added to our account! Once they’re credited, you’ll see the 5-mile transaction, and this will extend your expiration date for another 18 months (it may take up to 5 business days for your comment to be approved).

And that’s it!! We’ve renewed our miles without paying a thing and in a very simple way.
